In protest of the recent changes at LJ, a number of people have proposed the following:
For one day, make no posts. Make no comments. Let there be NO new content added to LJ.
SUP obviously does not realize that Basic users have given something of value to them, that it is content that drives the site.
So, for one 24-hour period, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT, let's see how many people we can get to pledge to contribute NO CONTENT.
This will create a permanent downward spike in the daily-posts statistics, a permanent reminder of the power of the userbase.
Who's with me, and what date shall it be?
Edited to add: Date is this Friday, March 21. Spread the word!
If anyone is interested in joining me this Friday, please leave a note here.

Many people get confused about what "midnight" really is.
For the medical field, and the military, "midnight" is 0000-hours, or the tick-tock that begins Friday.
For many lay-people out there, "midnight" is the minute which comes after 2359 (11:59pm) on Friday. Which would be 24 hours later than the first circumstance I described. If this is to be truly synchronized, we need to clear this up. (Or, stop posting an hour earlier or later, so everyone is on the same page)
Starts at 00:00 GMT 3-21-08. Ends at 23:59 GMT 03-21-08

(Heh, I didn't even think about the earth's rotation as a factor!)
I'll pass the word.
And p.s. -- Sad to say, I wasn't even aware of SUP having acquired LJ from Six Apart until today. I suppose I was already frustrated with Six Apart's handling of matters... but now to be handed over to a Russian company, which may not value the original user-base of LiveJournal. Well, I'm exceptionally concerned.
SUP is a Russian company that took over the Russian-language segment of LJ. They've pretty extensively commercialized that subset. And now that they've purchased the rest of LJ, they're commercializing all of it. There have been complaints of spam and whathaveyou from SUP users. I suspect that this isn't too far off for the rest of us.
Have you snagged yourself any radio slaves? If not, take a look at those Elinchroms. They're really nice.
In the end if our new Russian Overlords get sick of all the whining, they're going to do the exact same thing SA did, get tired of it, and sell us off. Personally, I think we dodged a bullet. I wonder what other options SA was considering aside from selling LJ to SUP.
SA could have easily merged us with VOX and go, oh now you need to comply with the VOX TOS, or SA could have just shut down LJ. "Sorry, but you're no longer economically viable for us, so we're just going to shut LJ down and divert resources toward more profitable venues.

Lets people find their zone and adjust accordingly.
I'm with you, btw.
