I was playing with the LensBaby at our wedding on Saturday and came out with this:

I'm considering an actual T/S lens. Nikon has a number of them in varying focal lengths. The only real drawback about the Nikkors, though, is that they're almost as expensive as our "workhorse" lenses (the three f/2.8 zooms).

My big gripe about the lensbaby was the difficulty in focusing it. I also don't like having to carry around a little magnet and a set of aperture rings in my pocket.

As much as I like the idea of the lensbaby. The effects ARE pretty cool... I played with one at WPPI, and jsut couldn't get the hang of it. Maybe that comes with practice, but I dunno how much during a wedding shoot I'd actually use it.

Honestly, this was more of an accident than anything. It's hard to focus on the fly because there's no aperture ring you can open and close while focusing.

Overall, I found it a little irritating, but I can see using it in the future. I can maybe even see getting the macro kit for it and using it on the occasional ring shot.

Thanks! If you go back one entry, there's a link to the other preview shots from the wedding.

I said that to a friend on Saturday. He promptly reminded me that we had already crossed the threshold into the land of "Pro."

and the 3G one is supposed to be easier...
Lensbabies are too inconsistent. Good shots out of them are more accidents I think than anything else. If you were going to be trying to capture this sort of look a lot I'd bite the bullet and buy that 24mm f/2.8 PC lens that Nikon just released. It's not ultrawide, but it's wide enough to potentially do some nice architectural or commercial photography out of it as well. Straight lines on buildings!

I'm going to stop in at Pro Photo today and rent one, I think. I want to give it a whirl and see if it's something I want to invest in.

Yeah I've seen one up close and it looks fairly complicated to operate. Definitely worth a rental.
